According to the NYTs, this photo was taken in 1832 by Frenchman, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce.

    The bowl looks empty to me. But is that a lump of bread on the right?

    Can we run our imagination a little wild. The soup is in the cattle on the right side, this eventually must have been poured in the bowl that looks empty. The loaf of bread looks fine, and the bottle has a fine wine. What more you need to dine.
